Sewing Hint

A solution for shortening jeans or slacks is to cut a 1 1/4 inch wide bias fabric piece, matching or coordinating with the pants.  Match the pant desired length, plus 1/4 inch.  Sew the bias fabric to the hem with a 1/4 inch seam and turn the hem up so 1/8th inch of the pant fabric shows on the wrong side.  Turn under the bias raw edge and stitch.  There won’t be a rippled effect on the tapered legs because the bias has enough give to produce a flat hem.

Crisp Seams

Sewing Tip:

To get crisp seams, ironed shoulder seams, use a 1 inch diameter dowel piece covered with a 100% cotton or wool casing.  Insert this pressing tool into the shoulder and press the seams, then iron the garment flat.  It is particularly useful in children’s clothing.

Sew Easy Mac and Cheesy

  • 8 oz box elbow macaroni
  • 16 oz cottage cheese
  • 8 oz sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 Cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • paprika

Pre-heat the oven to 350*

Cook macaroni according to package directions.

In a large bowl, mix the cottage cheese, sour cream, egg, and pepper together.  Stir just until mixed.  Pour in the macaroni and the cheddar cheese.  Stir again until mixed.

Pour into an 8 X 8 inch baking dish.  Lightly sprinkle paprika on top for a pleasant appearance.

Bake in pre-heated oven for 45 minutes.  Let stand for 3-5 minutes before serving.

Add a salad and some garlic Texas toast to compliment your dish.

This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled with wonderful results.  When making larger portions use a large foil baking pan.
