First-Aid Kits for Africa

(scroll down for the “Sewing Kits for Africa” post)

My husband and I are going to Kenya Africa in June with Crosspoint International Missions and I am trying to put together some first-aid kits for home use.

My heart was touched one evening when I saw a commercial for aid to the children of the third world. The beautiful face of the children just seemed to jump off the screen of my TV. I was moved to ask myself “what do the mothers of these sweet kids do when they fall and hurt themselves?” Well the answer was not hard to find. They can do little for the injuries, the water they have available to them is not clean and they have no band-aids to cover the cut.

I want to change that for as many moms as I can! So I am asking for all of you to help me help them. It will not take much effort on our part to put together small first-aid kits. All these kits need to contain can be placed in Ziploc bags: band-aids, first aid cream and a small pair of sewing scissors (like the child round tip craft scissors). All donations are acceptable.

We don’t have specific guidelines but in general we would like to have a quart size bag with a tube of first aid cream or triple antibiotic, a small pair of scissors, a box worth of gauze pads (10), a box worth of band-aids (60), a package of antiseptic wipes or some alcohol pads (25), and a roll of medical-type adhesive (white bandage tape). We would like the supplies to be enough for a family of 4 for about a year.

In fairness to all participants we have amended the policy for earning store credit: Bring in your receipts and receive store credit equal to the amount you spend for each kit you bring into the store.

If you cannot make it to our store but would like to help, please mail the kits to us at:

Attic Treasures
PO Box 374
204 Washington Street
Occoquan,Va 22125
703-490-1536

I would like this to be an on going effort. We will be so blessed when we know that we have uplifted a fellow Mother in another country. Help me help them.

Thanks and God Bless you all,
Judith Breunig

NEW: We have added the ability to donate via PayPal for those who can’t make it to the store or would prefer to send money instead of physical goods. All money donated will be used to purchase supplies for the first aid kits and the sewing kits. If you would like your donation to be for specific kits, please state that in the “instructions to seller” section upon checkout at PayPal.

Email your PayPal donation receipt to cs@bestsewingdeals.com and receive a credit for embroidery designs equal to the amount of your donation! Please put Sewing for Africa in the subject so we can make sure you get credit.

Sewing Kits for Africa

We are also going to put together sewing kits for the women of Kenya Africa. As sewers we have always had the ability to just get into our cars and run off to the the sewing store and grab what we need for the day.

The women of these small villages do not have the resources to even purchase a simple sewing needle. Can you find it in your heart to help me put together some simple sewing kits? All we need to do is place some spools of sewing thread, hand needles, and a small pair of sewing scissors in a zip lock bag. Think of what it will mean to a fellow sewer to be able to sew up her child’s only pair of shorts or a hole in a pair of pants. Please help me help the ladies of Kenya sew for their families.

We want this to be an on going project. Help us Help others. Thanks and May God bless you!

In fairness to all participants we have amended the policy for earning store credit: Bring in your receipts and receive store credit equal to the amount you spend for each kit you bring into the store.

Sewing Tip

Sue Ann has a great idea for the embroider for storing your stabilzers!!!! Using a pant hanger ( the kind that hold several pair of pants by folding over a rod) slide a roll of stabilzer on each on of the bars where you would have folder the pair of pants. You will be able to store 5 roll this way. WOW do I love this one

Grilled Shrimp and Veggies

one bottle zesty Itailan dressing
one pound of cleaned raw shrimp
one small onion
half a pound of fresh mushrooms
one med cut up zucchinni
one green or red pepper cut into large pieces

Place shrimp into ziplock bag and add half the bottle dressing. in a second ziplock bag place the veggies and the rest of the dressing. seal the two bags and store in ref. for at least 8 hours. When you are ready to cook heat and grill the shrimp and the veggies for about 10 min or until done.( the size of the shrimp will change the grilling time) This is a great sewers meal, for eight hours where will we be? At the machine Have fun sewing
